On Thursday, October 10 from 7-9 pm at the Josiah Smith Tavern Rose Ballroom, please join the Weston Historical Society for an exhibition of watercolors by Jack Richardson as well as conversation with Jack’s daughter, Dawn. There will be a silent auction of three original watercolors.

John H. “Jack” Richardson (1938 – 2017) came from a family of artists and grew up loving to draw. A long-time Weston resident, Richardson served more than 20 years as a firefighter, retiring as a captain. He designed the graphics for Weston Fire Department equipment and was said to be “well-known among firefighters in New England for his hand-painted gold leaf truck lettering.”

In addition to working as a firefighter and sign painter, Richardson was a talented watercolorist. With his teacher, Ray Doyle, he established a weekly watercolor night in the studio in his garage at 2 Warren Lane. Richardson accepted commissions for house paintings and painted many Weston town buildings and seasonal events such as his iconic Weston High School graduation and winter sledding on the Town Green.

Parking is available at the JST car pasture (the parking lot near former Tavernside playground). Beer and wine will be available for purchase. The Rose Ballroom is limited to 49 attendees due to fire department regulations.
