SUMMARY:Don't Throw It Away - Donate It!
DESCRIPTION:Join MetroWest Climate Solutions on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. for a
free webinar on repurposing your discards. To register\, visit
metrowestclimatesolutions.org.\n\nMassachusetts is facing a waste crisis.
It is quickly running out of landfill space and no new sites are currently
in the pipeline. Trash incinerators are operating at capacity. Everyone
agrees that we need to reduce the amount of trash we generate. But
how?\n\nMany of the items we throw out could have a second life –
 perfectly reusable sinks\, doors\, beds\, dressers\, housewares\, etc. How
do we connect the “excess” with the “need?” Two organizations
working to find a new life for unwanted household goods and building
supplies are Household Goods in Acton and Boston Building Resources in
Roxbury.\n\nHousehold Goods provides a full range of donated furniture and
household items\, free of charge\, to help people in need make a home. Last
year Household Goods furnished 3\,100 homes with 90\,000 items – large
and small. This was made possible by hundreds of dedicated volunteers.
Brigid Bieber\, Board of Directors Vice President\, will talk about how
Household Goods has successfully provided its services to MetroWest since
1990.\n\nBoston Building Resources provides the Boston community with
high-value\, affordable materials\, both new and used\, for home
maintenance and improvements. The organization also provides expert
advice\, technical assistance\, and hands-on skills workshops. Donating
reusable materials to the BBR Reuse Center keeps these items out of
landfills. Andrew Thompson\, Assistant Director of Partnerships at BBR\,
will talk about the BBR story\, evolving since 1978.\n\nMetroWest Climate
Solutions aims to inspire sustainable\, equitable communities by hosting
programs that address the climate crisis. MCS includes members from First
Parish in Wayland\, First Parish in Lincoln\, First Parish Church in
Weston\, First Parish in Framingham\, CFREE Lincoln\, and Energize Wayland.
