Oscar Wilde’s story of Salomé is turned into a opera by Richard Strauss.
John the Baptist is imprisoned at King Herod court. Herod lusts for his step-daughter Salomé, daughter of Herodias. Salomé has become obsessed with the prophet and demands the head of Jokanaan on a platter. Herod wants to give it to her, but only at a price: she has to dance for him. (Dance of Seven Veils)
