The Wayland-Weston Crew team is launching a sneaker drive fundraiser to raise money to help our team maintain and purchase new equipment and boats, keep the boathouse thriving, and most importantly to help fund scholarships that ensure every athlete who wants to row gets the chance.
We earn funds based on the total quantity of gently worn, used, and new sneakers collected. GotSneakers, a social enterprise, will issue funds in compensation for the collected sneakers. Those funds will benefit Wayland Weston Crew. Anyone can help by simply donating gently worn, used, and new sneakers.
GotSneakers has developed a unique fundraising program that asks communities to reach into their closets, not their pockets! The sneaker recycling program helps keep sneakers out of landfills, which has harmful effects on our environment, and helps organizations like ours raise much needed funds. The program is truly a win-win! Learn more about GotSneakers by visiting their website at www.gotsneakers.com. (Note that only sneakers will be accepted by GotSneakers–no boots or sandals).
It’s the perfect time of year to clean out closets. Please spread the word and collect sneakers from friends, family and even neighbors. The more we collect the more money we raise.
The drive is running until the end of October and all donations can be dropped off at the boathouse or the Weston Recreation Center.
