Make Our Town Poison-Free: Two Weston Girl Scouts are working on a Silver Award project to reduce the use of harmful rodenticides, called SGARs, the most popular pest control method of businesses, residences, and management companies.
The Scouts will host a presentation on April 29th, 7-8 pm at the Weston Library to review the often fatal impacts of SGAR use on birds of prey, mammals, and domestic pets.
Speakers from the Town of Weston, Save Weston Wildlife, and area organizations will present safer and more effective pest control alternatives used by over 40 Massachusetts towns including Newton, Lowell, Waltham, Arlington and Concord. Currently, Massachusetts is considering legislation with wide bipartisan support that bans SGAR use at the state and local levels.
Weston joins the growing network of communities that now restrict the use of SGARs on municipal properties, with over 20 more seeking similar bans.
The Scouts join Save Weston Wildlife, Massachusetts Audubon Society and a large network of organizations and businesses in educating the public about the harmful impacts of SGARs on our local wildlife and pets.
