I sew baby-size quilts with fabrics that I’ve collected over time and with repurposed cloth from old clothing, window curtains, and other projects. I’ve always dabbled in some form of craft — ceramics, beadwork, collage. In 2018, anticipating the birth of my first grandchild, I sewed a quilt to welcome him and found myself loving the process. A couple of other quilts followed and when the pandemic hit it became what I did most of every day during that crazy, disorienting time.
None of the quilts are planned on paper in advance; I just start cutting and sewing, enjoying the colors and thinking about how they might please a family with a new baby. Bright colors and the products of talented textile designers make the whole process both a real pleasure and a form of service for me. All my quilts, about 100 so far, are for giving away, to friends and organizations who support families and children in need.
Reception at the Weston Public Library: April 4, 4-6 pm.
