American Air Mail Society (AAMS) President David S. Ball and Treasurer/Webmaster Charlie Giorgetti—both members of the Waltham Stamp Club and volunteers at the Spellman Museum—are pleased to present an updated version of one of the museum’s cornerstone exhibitions, Zeppelins! The Era of the Giant Airships.
This engaging presentation brings to life the golden age of airship travel and mail service, featuring iconic Zeppelin covers and fascinating memorabilia. It explores how transatlantic mail was carried aboard these remarkable aircraft and highlights the critical role postage stamps played in funding Zeppelin operations.
The program concludes with the dramatic and poignant end of the era—the wreck of the German airship Hindenburg in May 1937, while viewing wreckage mail from the crash.
This event is free with museum admission.
