Haiku is a short poem that connects us deeply with the natural world. It is also a poem of heightened awareness; of direct, personal experience. We will learn about haiku, its history, form and structure, read many haiku, and try our hand at writing haiku using a fun, easy prompt. All are invited to this fun, supportive workshop, no experience necessary, Each participant will receive a free copy of the instructor’s book, The Length of One Breath: Haiku Now.
Instructor Jeannie Martin, Ed.D., is a member of the Boston Haiku Society. Martin has brought haiku to marginalized populations and programs in homeless shelters, low-income elder housing, nursing homes, memory loss units, and prisons. She is the author of nine haiku chapbooks and two books of haiku reflections: Clear Water: a haiku invitation into our luminous, sacred world (2013) and a touch of light (2019).
